I find 16.0 openSuse substantially enough different than 15.6 - so, I have
reinstalled from scratch. I made config script using the first machine,
then reused it on other HW with simple modifications.
This is not a real advice - because I reinstalled all my openSuse boxes,
without even trying to upgrade.
That said all my past upgrades went fine, initially. Over time, I have
always started to run into some strange behavior, and I have always
regretted not reinstalling from scratch.
I also found that my knowledge and experience is inversely related to time
from the last installation. So, my barrier to clean install is rising with
time trom the last install.
My solution: good executable notes, and/or automated config scripts based
on the default installation. This is especially useful for multi user setup
with network based storage.
Your mileage my vary,
- Tomas
